When you need a quick bite on a budget, baos are hard to beat. When they’re only $1, it’s hard to say no. That’s what Wonderbao will be serving when it celebrates its seventh birthday – and 10,000 followers on Instagram – on July 20.
It’ll be dropping the price of four traditional bao varieties – char siu (barbeque pork), choi (shiitake mushroom, tofu and vegies), nai wong (egg custard) and taro – to just $1. (All other menu items will be available the regular retail price.) Customers can order as many $1 baos as they like, as long as they visit between 11am and 4pm.
For steamed buns south of the city, look out for Wonderbao’s pop-up at Prahran Market one week later on July 28, from 10.30am to 3pm. Owner Andrew Wong will be hosting a stovetop steaming demo in the first hour, then serving paired bao and tea flights in collaboration with Libertea. Tickets are limited, purchase them here.
