The Twilight Series is an impressive program of live music taking place at the zoo that raises funds for a particular threatened animal. This year that animal is the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, and the lineup pulled together to raise funds is the Zoo’s best year.
Spread over 12 weekends from January to March, the Twilight Series takes place in the Zoo Gardens, and takes advantage of some fantastic local talent and a few surprising overseas acts that could not be more diverse (The Village People and Stephen Malkmus?).
On the local front, Paul Kelly will present songs from his new album with Clairy Browne, Dan Sultan appears with Benny Walker, and there’s The Twerps, The Bombay Royale, Bernard Fanning, Sarah Blasko with Luluc, Hiatus Kaiyote, The Cat Empire, Jen Cloher and more.
Coming in from overseas are Conor Oberst and the Felice Brothers, The Budos Band and the aforementioned Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks plus, of course, The Village People.
Included with tickets is the chance to explore the zoo at dusk, with the zoo itself open until 7pm (tickets are all inclusive). Another perk will be keeper's presentations for the elephant and lion enclosures taking place on each of the concert nights.
Food and drinks (hard and soft) will be on offer in the Tastes of Twilight Zone.
The 2015 Twilight Series is on every Friday and Saturday evening from 30 January 2015 until 7 March 2015.
