Earlier this year, Melbourne had its first experience of Royal Croquet Club, when for two weeks the festival took over Birarrung Marr with a host of our favourite food vendors. There was tennis on the big screen, great drinks, and a croquet lawn for those handy with a mallet. This summer, we couldn’t wait for the tennis, so we’re bringing it forward to December.
Since launching in Adelaide in 2013, Royal Croquet Club has established itself as one of the finest ways to spend a summer day, adding a new dining and drinking experience to the city (with added hoops and balls).
After huge crowds, lots of Pimms and some cracking play on the pitches of Adelaide and Melbourne, the Royal Croquet Club is going national – launching in Brisbane this week, and with Perth and Sydney added to the bill. And we’re coming along for the ride.
As we did last summer, Broadsheet will be curating the food precincts with some of our favourite restaurants and food vendors. This year we’ve added a Broadsheet Bar, where we will curate cocktails, sourced from the bars that make this city’s one of the world’s best for drinking in. There will be more croquet pitches, bigger music acts and more food vendors.
First up is Brisbane, which opens this week, where Broadsheet has put together a bar with five of the best cocktail makers in town – Cobbler, Gerard’s Bar, Lychee Lounge, The Bowery and The Gresham.
In coming months we’ll announce line-ups for the food and drink offerings in each state, featuring each cities’ most-loved eateries and watering holes, as well as the acts who’ll take to the main stage.
