You’ve been told to pack your mallet, but we also suggest you pack your moves. Once you’re done whacking a ball through an unforgiving hoop, and you’ve finished devouring your soft-shell-crab-burger, stick around: there’s going to be some right royal beats. Each weekend for the duration of the festival, local and international acts will be gracing the stage. There will also be roaming entertainment throughout the 16-day event.

The party kicks off on Friday January 16 with DJ Agent 86. One of Melbourne’s true dance-floor heroes, 86 can throw down incredible sets of almost any genre. Continuing over the weekend, emerging Melbourne DJ Airwolf is on the decks Saturday with his seriously smooth beats. Sunday night, you catch an acoustic performance by Sean Marchetti followed by party purveyors Wax’o Paradiso, who will also be closing the festival on February 1.

The following weekend shows no sign of slowing down. On Friday January 23, Brisbane’s The Kite String Tangle will be playing while Saturday night sees the Miami Horror DJs come to the party. Next up, is 17-year-old producer, Unearthed High 2014 winner and the envy of every 20-something, Japanese Wallpaper on Sunday the 25th. If you haven’t caught him live yet, now is a very good time. Capping off the long weekend will be Hayden James on Australia Day night. Signed by Sydney taste makers Future Classic, James has been creating some seriously smooth beats over the last year, including a bunch of remixes for Rufus, Dillon Francis and Snakadaktal.

To finish, Friday January 30 welcomes renowned UK DJ Norman Jay MBE. Norman Jay’s trips to Australia are way too rare and his sets, full of house, irresistible funk and soul, are always a treat. Beats continue on to Saturday night with Young Franco, a Brisbane DJ, producer and self-confessed lover of the funky bass line.

The Royal Croquet Club runs from January 16 to February 1 at Birrarung Marr.
