What is the Arch of Love? Why is everyone dancing around with their boots in the air? Where is the cinema? How many pink flamingoes have I had? Golden Plains is a festival of discovery, and the music is no exception. For as many artists who made your heart give a small skip when you saw their name on the bill, there will be as many you've barely - or never – heard of. And that’s exactly the point, as by festival's end, you'll have a small handful of new favourite acts.
Each year, the line up features a carefully selected and truly eclectic mix of artists from around the country and the globe who cover just about every music genre there is. This year, the bill runs from the contemplative and beautiful (Aldous Harding, Sharon Van Etten), through turntable wizardry (DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist), all out garage rock and roll (Parquet Courts, Oblivians, Radio Birdman), through straight-up party rocking (Theo Parrish, Edd Fisher, Village People - we did say it was eclectic). In the mix are indie superheroes Stephen Malkmus, Conor Oberst) and soon-to-be indie superheros (Courtney Barnett, Twerps). It's a mighty fine list, so this year, when you begin your road trip to the amphitheatre, acquaint yourself with a few new tunes and get psyched for some old favourites with our festival playlist.
