Melbourne Theatre Company’s (MTC) 2024 season has just been announced, and it’s nothing short of impressive. To celebrate, Broadsheet is giving one winner the chance to see seven shows for free this season.

There’s plenty on the bill this year. Following a sensational 2023 run in Sydney, a major season highlight will be Julia, a captivating portrait of Australia’s first female prime minister, Julia Gillard. Written by Joanna Murray-Smith (Berlin) and directed by Helpmann Award-winner Sarah Goodes (Sunday), the play reflects on the moments in Gillard’s life and career that led to her famous “misogyny” speech.

Also on the bill are two productions directed by MTC artistic director Anne-Louise Sarks in her second year at the helm. There’s a fascinating take on Tennessee Williams’s timeless classic A Streetcar Named Desire, which will see Nikki Shiels step into the iconic role of Blanche DuBois. And, vibrant new musical My Brilliant Career, based on Miles Franklin’s novel of the same name, with a soundtrack that veers from contemporary pop to wild pub rock.

Plus, Kendall Feaver’s multi-award-winning play The Almighty Sometimes, starring Nadine Garner (The Lifespan of Fact) and Max McKenna (Muriel’s Wedding the Musical) and Seventeen, a hilarious portrayal of adolescence featuring theatre legends Pamela Rabe, Fiona Choi and Robert Menzies.

Deciding what to see is often the hardest part of the MTC line-up, so a seven-play pass should help you make your way through your wish list. One winner will win a subscription to seven mainstage productions of their choice throughout the MTC’s 2024 season.
