In a normal year, many Melburnians would be spending their mornings and late evenings in August shivering in icy winds, as they wait to get into their chosen MIFF screening. MIFF 68½ may be operating differently to previous years, but that doesn’t mean locals have to miss out on their movie fix – we’re just ditching the beanies and scarves for doonas and cosy couches.

One of the 113 films you can see at this year’s festival (which finishes on August 23) is The Leadership, a new documentary by Sydney-based director Ili Baré exploring issues of science, the gender gap and systemic barriers to women’s equality that we often overlook. The film follows 76 scientists on a groundbreaking all-women leadership trip to Antarctica. Over the 20-day voyage, against the backdrop of a slowly deteriorating antarctic environment, clashing politics and philosophies emerge.

Never miss a Melbourne moment. Make sure you're subscribed to our newsletter today.

In partnership with MIFF, we’re giving away 10 single passes to The Leadership, which you can stream online until August 23.
