Win: A VIP Double Pass to MIFF’s Armani Beauty Cinema Club Opening Night

Melbourne International Film Festival returns this August, with new major festival partner Armani Beauty bringing a fresh experience to the program.

The Armani Beauty Cinema Club is a curated strand of films that celebrate a shared love for cinema, culture and film. The strand opens with a special event at the Capitol Theatre on Thursday August 13 – and you can win tickets to attend.

Five readers will win one double pass each to the event, which begins with a VIP welcome soiree with arrival drinks and canapés. Then, take your seats for a private screening of sci-fi romantic comedy Wishful Thinking, which won the Narrative Feature Competition Jury Prize at SXSW earlier this year. Directed by Graham Parkes, the film stars Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke and Thunderbolts’ Lewis Pullman, alongside Randall Park, Jake Shane and Amita Rao.

Wishful Thinking follows Julie and Charlie, a Portland couple on the verge of breaking up. After attending a couples therapy seminar run by a dubious pair of twin healers, their relationship becomes linked to global events, with their emotional states triggering earthquakes, market shifts and wider disruption. As the consequences escalate, they’re forced to confront whether their relationship can survive – and what it’s doing to the world around them.

Other films on the strand program include haunting ghost story Rose of Nevada, shot on 16mm and starring George MacKay and Callum Turner; documentary Kim Novak’s Vertigo, about the classic Hollywood star during the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece thriller; queer epic La Bola Negra, which won the Best Director Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival; and more.
