Past parties have been more like big European dance events than the underground raves Melburnians are used to – and there are more on the way this year, thanks to a renewed lease.

After sitting dormant for decades, West Footscray’s heritage-listed Wool Store was taken over by Untitled Group – which is responsible for Pitch Music and Arts Festival and Ability Fest – in April 2018.

The colossal 1940s warehouse was kitted out with a world-class sound system and lighting rig, and the space, which can hold 5000 people, became one of the city’s most reliable for large-scale parties.

The inaugural event saw Croatian tech-house DJ Solomun play to several thousand people, and the second was headlined by Welsh electronic producer Jamie Jones, co-founder of the wildly successful London dance label Hot Creations. The final show for 2019, on June 1, was headlined by Catalan DJ John Talabot, whose debut album Fin topped best album lists in 2012.

And that was supposed to be the end of it.

But Untitled Group has announced it’s just secured a new lease, which means another year of big European-style dance parties in the mammoth space.

The first headliner will be announced soon – keep an eye on Untitled Group’s Facebook page.
