Glow Winter Arts Festival is a new addition to the south-side calendar. Uniting arts communities from Prahran, Malvern, Toorak and South Yarra, 50 diverse events are programmed over 11 days.
Somehow finding middle ground between a psychedelic bouncy castle and a cathedral, Exxopolis’s surreal labyrinth of luminous colourful tunnels and domes is a highlight of the festival. Explore this huge, maze-like exhibit, which, sitting atop the Jam Factory’s roof, covers the space of half a football field.
Pairing film and food trucks, free cinema series Flicks ‘n’ Feasts will also be a big drawcard. Set in the laneway outside Prahran Market, you’ll find killer combinations such as kung-fu movies with dim sum, spaghetti westerns with pizza and Bollywood films served with curry. This Friday night, catch the original The Karate Kid. The new Hammer & Tong 412 food truck will be parked here alongside the The Brûlée Cart and more trucks, all ready to serve dinner.
On the nights of August 22 and 23, over the festival’s final weekend, Chapel Street will become a stage for performances and lightshows.
There’s also a vibrant program of live music, comedy clubs, roving circus performers and more from Stonnington’s arts scene to keep you entertained throughout the festival.
Glow Winter Arts Festival 2014 runs from August 14 to 24 across The City of Stonnington. Check glowfestival.com.au for more information, the programe of events and to purchase tickets.
