There’s nothing wrong with a cardboard tub of popcorn washed down with Coke from the soda gun. But every now and then it’s fun to treat yourself to an upgrade when you go to the movies.
It’s already in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, and come May 23 Melbourne will have its own Palace Platinum, Palace Cinemas’ deluxe theatre experience.
It’s opening in Palace Cinema Como in South Yarra and the three new theatres will have just 14 to 24 seats. Each cinemagoer will get their own handcrafted Spanish leather recliner with individual tables and footrests.
Service will be available with the touch of a button, so you can order both snacks and something more substantial from the nearby Meat & Wine Co. For example, get a steak sandwich, a cheeseburger, or a haloumi and baked pumpkin salad.
And to kick your evening off you can swap the post-mix soft drink for bubbly wine at the dedicated prosecco bar in the Palace Platinum lounge before the show. The lounge was designed by Hecker Guthrie, the firm responsible for Piccolina’s stunning Collingwood gelataria.
The Palace Platinum theatres open May 23 at Palace Cinema Como, South Yarra. Tickets here.
