Lido Cinema’s new rooftop program has just been announced, which means balmy summer nights are well on the way.

There’s a strong theme of nostalgia across the board. Iconic ’90s rom-coms She’s All That, Drive Me Crazy, Never Been Kissed and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion will screen, as will Baz Luhrmann’s modern take on the Shakespearian classic Romeo and Juliet – guaranteed to break a few hearts.

The ’80s will make an appearance too; moviegoers are encouraged to dress up for Die Hard and Risky Business screenings. And you can catch David Bowie’s magical dance moves in the cult 1986 musical fantasy Labyrinth, which is sure to sell out.

A few highly anticipated new releases made the cut as well. The wizarding world of JK Rowling will be revisited in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and charismatic Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is portrayed by Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody. On the darker side, there’ll be advanced screenings of Academy Award nominee Luca Guadagnino’s modern take on the 1977 horror classic Suspiria. Arnie fans will swoon over the SchwarzeMega Marathon on December 5.

The 100-seat rooftop cinema on Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn will be decked out with striped chairs and beanbags, and there’ll be food and booze available, too.
