Access members got first dibs on watching The Rock’s new MMA drama at Melbourne’s most food-obsessed movie house. Plus – free beer and big-screen thrills.

Broadsheet Access brings the latest in culture and food to our members – and we’re especially psyched when that involves watching Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson open innumerable cans of whoop-ass on film. Recently, a heap of Access members got the chance to do just that at an exclusive free screening at Fomo Cinemas in Brunswick East.

After entering the movie house's Blade Runner -themed lobby (currently decked out for Halloween), guests were treated to a complimentary Bridge Road Brewers beer (or non-alc alternative). Then they were among the first to watch Johnson’s Oscar-touted turn as real-life MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter Mark Kerr. The film by indie director Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, Good Time) also stars Emily Blunt – no stranger to big-screen action – and reveals two sides of the pro fighter: the presentable showbiz hero, and the smashing machine powered by uncontrollable rage.

Though grittier than The Rock’s usual outings, the film still rates those all-important cinema snacks, and many Access members took advantage of Fomo’s food offerings – including freshly made pizza, burgers and bespoke popcorn – which can be ordered via app, or pre-purchased before the film, then delivered straight to your seat.

If you missed out on The Smashing Machine screening at Fomo Cinemas, don’t worry – we have plenty more film and food events on the cards. Just head over to Broadsheet Access and sign up for your membership to stay in the know. To get the most out of Access, we recommend an annual membership – it’s only $12 a month.

Broadsheet Access is a membership program with exclusive events, offers and restaurant reservations. Join today for less than the price of a Martini each month.
