50 Bands Are Taking Over Venues Across Thornbury – All for Free

Thornbury is getting a free daylong music festival on Saturday October 24. More than 50 bands and DJs will play across 18 Thornbury venues starting from 1pm, with staggered set times so you can catch a show at each venue over the course of the day.

It’s the first edition of Thornbury Crawl, a collaboration between all the venues involved. The idea is to move between bars and bandrooms throughout the day and catch live sets at each. It’s a similar concept to The Eighty-Six, a festival which ran along the 86 tram line in 2023 with an enormous line-up of bands and DJs, a record label expo, a street party and even a dog parade – but with a focus strictly on local music instead.

You’ll find gigs at the usual Thornbury suspects: the big bandroom at Shotkickers, the more intimate spaces at Cactus Room and Thornbury Local, the even cosier Cafe Gummo, as well as new jazz bar Jacket. The normally cocktail-focused bar Kitty Somerset will host a secret headline act, and the gallery space at Shopfront 740 will host bands. Naturally, Greek Cypriot bar and restaurant Capers is getting involved, and you’ll be able to catch live jazz at Northside Wines, and a Latin band at bottle shop Bespoke Wines & Spirits.

There’ll be indoor-outdoor shows at Thornbury Bowls and Welcome To Thornbury, and rounding out the band venues is Tallboy & Moose Brewery – technically in Preston, but part of the same High Street community.

The music line-up spans emerging and established local bands, acoustic artists and DJs. Most acts are rock-leaning: alt-rockers Destrends, local garage rockers Drunk Mums and alt-pop outfit Joan & The Giants are all highlights. Branching out genre-wise are one-man band Bob Log III; and post-punk three-piece Frons. There’ll also be jazz acts performing throughout the day at Jacket.

You’ll find DJs at rooftop bar Gigi, where Milo Eastwood will program a day of music, as well as Nasty’s, Bar Lingo and Franklin’s.

Music kicks off at 1pm at Welcome To Thornbury and a free ticket will get you access to every venue on the day. Punters are encouraged to support bands and venues by purchasing a drink and some merch. Most venues will be for those 18 and over, with family-friendly shows at Northside Wines, Tallboy & Moose, and the early Bob Log III set at Shotkickers, where kids can attend with a parent or guardian.

Free tickets and the full program are available here.
