Live music is finally returning to The Esplanade Hotel this weekend after more than two years. The St Kilda institution has announced it will host two shows in conjunction with St Kilda Arts Crawl this Saturday and Sunday.

The Espy closed for renovations in May 2015 and never reopened. Then in March this year, news broke that it had been bought by publican group Sand Hill Road.

The Espy’s Gershwin Room will host Australian punk band X, supported by The Heartache State featuring Nick Barker and DJ Whitt (Spiderbait’s Damian Whitty) from 7pm this Saturday.

On Sunday afternoon, a Comedy Gala pop-up – hosted by Brad Oakes and featuring Dave O’Neil, Pommy Johnson and Christine Basil – will happen, also in the Gershwin Room.

The Espy’s new owners Sand Hill Road told Broadsheet in May that they hope to reopen the venue in October 2018.

Tickets to Saturday night’s gig are $30, plus a booking fee, or $35 at the door. Tickets to Sunday’s comedy show are $25 and are available here. Doors open at 2pm and the show begins at 2.30pm.
