For the Wade brothers, life’s pretty sweet. For their 21st birthdays, Cameron and Ben threw a music festival to celebrate – easy when you both play in bands and have a few farms to choose between for the location.
In 2015, these boys are bringing you a little slice of their past with a new boutique music festival, By The Meadow.
“We’re stealing the best bits from all of the festivals we love and putting them in one spot,” says Cameron.
Held on a sheep farm in Bambra, a town halfway between Winchelsea and the Great Ocean Road, By The Meadow will host an astute selection of local acts from Western Victoria and Melbourne.
Foreign/National and Dorsal Fins are headlining. The rest of the line-up covers fuzzy pop-rock; mellow, club-ready electronica; and R’n’B acts that can hit the same octaves as Usher.
Aside from music, the festival is including a yet-to-be-revealed “special speaker”, similar in style to Golden Plains’ keynote speeches.
By The Meadow debuted privately in 2014. This year, it’s open to the public for the first time with early-bird tickets at $50. Bambra itself is situated within the Otway Hinterlands, a place with lush rolling green hills and quiet gravel roads.
“We wanted to bring in people from around the area, because there’s not a lot to do for young people around here. We’re from Western Victoria, so we’ve got a bit of land to spare,” he says.
