Palace Cinemas confirms it will open a new 15-screen cinema on the site of the historic Pentridge Prison in Coburg. Opening in mid-2019, the cinema will be part of a redevelopment by Shayher Group that includes apartments, a shopping centre, offices and a hotel. Shayher bought the Pentridge site in 2013.

The cinema has been temporarily named Palace Champ Street after the street it’s on. It will not be inside the actual heritage-listed prison buildings.

Construction on the greater development is expected to start in 2017 and finish in 2019.
