The Argentinian and Brazilian national football teams are in Melbourne this week for a soccer friendly at the MCG on Friday.

To celebrate, Adidas is putting on a five-day light projection at Fed Square, counting down the hours to the match. Until June 9, part of the building will be lit up with images of giant Argentinian soccer players from 6pm to 10pm each night.

$200-plus tickets are still available for the game, but if you’re not going (and you weren’t one of 30 fans who watched the team training at Albert Park) you might catch a glimpse of the soccer stars, and the world’s best player, Lionel Messi, at Fed Square.

Adidas won’t confirm any celebrity appearances but says there’s a possibility the Argentinian team, including Messi, may visit the light installation during its stay.

Your willingness to hang around in the cold in the hope of a selfie with the sporting icon depends on whether you value the beautiful game over your circulatory system.

Brazil versus Argentina takes place this Friday June 9 at the MCG. The Federation Square light show is running June 5 to 9 from 6pm to 10pm.
