Leading man Adam Garcia is officially out of action with only 10 days left of Singin’ in the Rain’s run at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Garcia (who plays Don Lockwood) suffered a tear in his calf muscle during a performance on Sunday, according to a statement released today.

His injury rules him out of the opening weeks of the Sydney season – the musical will open at the Sydney Lyric on July 7. Garcia may be unable to perform for up to six weeks.

Grant Almirall will step into Garcia’s role during his absence.

The show collected three Helpmann Award nominations just this week, including Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical, Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical, and Best Choreography in a Musical.

Singin’ in the Rain runs at Her Majesty’s Theatre until July 2.
