Although Loco changed management in 2015, the cafe hasn’t lost its charm. It’s now owned by The Coffee Culture Communication Group, the same company that brought Einstein’s 251, Sir Charles and Prospect Espresso from the original groups of founders.
It’s meant a switch in coffee providers (the beans are now from Axil Coffee Roasters), and a renovation to foster a warm, inviting environment. The wooden tables sit on chocolate-coloured floorboards, lit by dangling Edison lamps.
For a nutrient boost, there’s a green super bowl on the menu - a combination of kale, lentils, corn and chilli topped with a poached egg. While some things have changed, others remain the same, including the roasted-field-mushrooms dish.
Baristas liven lattes and flat whites with clever coffee art - lions, swans, ridiculously detailed faces – you name it.
Loco continues to be one of the area’s most trusted cafes, and a comforting escape from bustling Glen Huntly Road.
