At the southern end of the stunning Grampians National Park, you’ll find the Royal Mail Hotel, best known for its destination fine diner Wickens. It’s fed by an organic kitchen garden, about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, where guests can stroll through rows of tomatillos, beetroot, melons and purple sweet potato, while ducks and chickens act as natural pest control.

The hotel has 17 rooms in total, plus a couple of one- and two-bedroom apartments. In all rooms you’ll find king beds, Jardan furniture, rainfall showers and Dinosaur Designs vases filled with native flowers. Each room also has a private balcony and full-height glass wall granting views of three Southern Grampians peaks – Mount Sturgeon, the Piccaninny and Mount Abrupt. The finishes are more modest than you might expect, but with their local sandstone and timber finishes, the rooms evoke a quiet, understated luxury on par with the country surroundings.

There’s multiple more rustic accommodation options off-site too, including Mulberry House, a beautifully restored four-bedroom federation house with a wraparound balcony just a few minutes’ walk away, and three kilometres up the road is Mt Sturgeon Station, a 25,000 hectare farm where the hotel’s cattle and lamb are raised. Here you’ll find more secluded accommodation (you’re likely to spot some wildlife, too).

The hotel’s Outdoor Wellness Suite, launched in 2025, is available to guests in 90-minute blocks. It includes a spacious magnesium-salt hot tub, Finnish-inspired cedar wood sauna and adjacent cool-down shower. Between dips and steams, enjoy clear views of those rugged Southern Grampians peaks, plus teas made with ingredients from the kitchen garden. If you’re lucky, an emu or mob of kangaroos will wander past.
