Cheeky Goose Cafe
Cheeky Goose is in a former church that was built over a century ago, looks like a Bavarian beer hall, and has a menu that borrows dishes from cuisines around the world. But hey, it works.
It’s best known for its fried chicken, which shows up in dishes across the menu including tacos and burgers. You can get some on the side of your main meal, or you could go the whole hog and get yourself a ten-piece feast. A real choose-your-own chicken adventure.
The Colonel can hold on to his 11 secret herbs and spices – chef Rob Van den Brink’s chicken recipe uses 24 different seasonings. That, and the buttermilk brine, is what gives his chicken its signature crunch and taste.
The 16 beers on tap rotate, but there’s always a brown ale, a german pilsner, a pale ale and a stout. There’s even a house brew: the Cheeky Island Blonde Lager. There are also nearly 200 spirits behind the bar.
Besides chicken, Cheeky Goose Cafe offers many American-style favourites such as smoked brisket and grass-fed Angus short ribs slow cooked with Jack Daniels. Check out the custom-made black smoker outside where many of the meats are wet smoked for up to 24 hours. Vegetarian and vegan options include a pumpkin and corn burger, mushroom risotto with truffles and side dishes such as the jalapeno gherkin onion rings.
