Napoleone Brewery and Cider House

10:00am - 5:00pm
12 St Huberts Road Coldstream 3770

The Napoleone family, famous for making Punt Road wine, was growing apples before it was growing grapes. Now it’s also making beer.

At the bar, you can sample four brews on a flight –a pale ale or lager, and an apple or pear cider. When you find something you like, grab a pint and sit outside on a sun-drenched table. Or come on Saturday morning, when brewer Ben Waymouth offers tours of his brewery, followed by private tastings.

The attached restaurant, Meletos, adds extra appeal to the bar. It’s guided by whatever fresh ingredients are available from the area, meaning the kitchen often uses producers such as Yarra Valley Dairy to enrich its famous woodfired pizzas.

Other dishes include honey-roasted figs, and larger meals such as barbequed lamb rump with eggplant puree, and a potato gnocchi with sautéed mushrooms.

The driveway to the brewery and restaurant takes you past rows and rows of apple trees. Meletos and Napoleone are housed in a beautifully atmospheric warehouse space, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the rows. At night, the vineyard is lit by fairy lights. It’s all very romantic.
