This former furniture restoration shop was reborn as a cafe in early 2008. The white-washed space rolls out to polished concrete floors with industrial light fittings and a huge preloved workbench acting as centre piece and coffee counter, complete with all the pits and scars of its past life.

But the best part about this unassuming location – at that awkward section of Queens Parade in Clifton Hill, just before it goes under the train tracks and turns into Westgarth – is the leafy garden with a lemon tree, tiny wall tables under striped awnings and paint-chipped benches sitting among herbs and greenery.

There’s charm everywhere you look while sipping on icey granitas, or eating porridge, breakfast burgers or hotcakes. From the crocheted rugs by the door, to the water jugs fulls of flowers, and old corner-store signs, owners Lauren Bieber and Tom Crowe have really nailed the “tea at granny's” feel – except that here gran is serving Seven Seeds coffee.
