The City of Melbourne is seeking expressions of interest to help fit-out and operate the greenhouse-inspired rooftop above the new market pavilion at Queen Victoria Market. The structure will temporarily house stallholders during the precinct’s $250 million redevelopment.

Groups and individuals specialising in sustainability, technology, education, hospitality and fresh food production are being asked to propose ideas for the 900-square-metre space, which will operate above the trading space.

Designed by Melbourne-based firm Breathe Architecture, the glass structure will be built on nine-metre columns above Queen Street. Construction is due to begin next month.

Traders will relocate to the greenhouse in March 2018 and operation is expected to begin mid-2018.

Submissions are now open and close at 11am on Monday October 9, 2017.
