Melburnians in outlying suburbs will be forced to catch a taxi home, or face the dreaded Uber surge charge following the CBD fireworks this New Year’s Eve.

As reported by the Age a spokesperson for PTV said the buses are not running as the evening falls on a Sunday. In previous years buses have run regardless of the night NYE falls on.

Residents in Altona Meadows, Endeavour Hills, Keysborough, Meadow Heights, Mernda, Mornington, Mulgrave, Point Cook, Rosebud and Rowville will be the most heavily affected.

Some of these services will see last buses leaving the CBD as early as 9pm meaning that residents could need to wait as late as 8am for a bus if they wish to stay up for the midnight festivities.

Services to Bulleen, Carlton, Doncaster, Templestowe and Warrandyte will run until at 2am.

Trains and trams will run all night. Trips will be free from 6pm December 31 until 6am New Years Day.
