Winter did more than dump three weeks' worth of rain on us today.

Some savvy storm chasers (there’s actually a Facebook group dedicated to them) spotted a very cool-looking funnel cloud (the actual technical term) in Melbourne’s outer west and east this afternoon.

Through the afternoon, photos of the weather phenomenon have been posted from Wyndham Vale, Eynesbury, Melton and Mount Cottrell, and it appears a separate funnel cloud appeared over Traralgon in Victoria's east.

The Bureau of Meteorology was quick to assure everyone that funnel clouds are harmless.
