A section of Victoria’s most famous scenic route, the Great Ocean Road, has just been closed due to severe weather.
The road between Deans Marsh Road in Lorne and View Road in Eastern View is temporarily blocked off because of land slips and fallen trees.
A video posted by Victoria State Emergency Service shows a serious amount of water on the road with the warning: “Never drive through floodwater – it only takes about 15 centimetres of water to lose control of your vehicle.”
A severe-weather warning issued by Bureau of Meteorology this morning predicts heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding over parts of the north-east and Gippsland districts of Victoria, mainly around alpine areas.
There’s also a warning of possibly damaging winds averaging 50 to 60 kilometres an hour with peak gusts of 90 to 100 kilometres an hour in parts of the state.
