UPDATE: Due to Melbourne weather and other circumstances the Puppy Tram has been postponed. Stay tuned for details on when it will go ahead.
Guide Dogs Victoria turns 60 this year and to celebrate, it has partnered with Public Transport Victoria for what is probably the best transport announcement of 2017: the temporary existence of a Puppy Tram.
Beginning at 10 am on Wednesday April 26, which is International Guide Dog Day, a special tram will be traveling along Swanston Street and St Kilda Road, with a bunch of special canine guests aboard.
There won’t be any really young puppies on the tram due to welfare restrictions, but there will be Ambassador Dogs on board, being adorable, ready for cuddles. Plus you'll be given a special birthday treat. The Puppy Tram will only be running as long as the treats don't run out.
Over 60 years, Guide Dogs Victoria has bred more than 8,000 puppies, helping thousands of people who suffer from low vision or blindness. Currently, there are 150 guide dog puppies being raised in homes across Victoria (and the organisation is looking for homes for another 30 new puppies at the moment).
Look out for tram 3536, and take a deep breath.
