One of Melbourne’s most iconic city laneways, Degraves Street, was evacuated this afternoon when a fire broke out at one of the strip’s cafes.
Six trucks arrived at the scene shortly after 2pm, the Melbourne Fire Brigade says. The Age reported that the fire began in Cafe Andiamo’s kitchen. It then spread through the flue and ducting, according to MFB.
The blaze was under control within 15 minutes. No ambulances were called and there are no reports of injuries.
The cafe has extensive damage due to smoke and water, with the kitchen and ceiling worst hit.
Flinders Lane remains closed at this time.
