Winds reaching up to 40-kilometres per hour buffeted Melbourne this morning causing delays across roads and public transport.
Boom gates at level crossings and several sets of traffic lights across Melbourne have broken. Buses are also experiencing delays.
A fallen tree on the Hurstbridge/South Morang train line has partially suspended the service. Replacement buses are running between Clifton Hill and Flinders Street. It is not known when services will resume.
Road and public transport users are being advised to allow extra time to complete their journeys.
An art installation in Federation Square was torn down and winds blew a cable reel from the back of a truck, closing two lanes on the Westgate Bridge.
There are also 30-minute delays on the Sunbury line due to a police operation.
