On Tuesday, October 29, Queen Victoria Market’s opening hours will change for the first time in 20 years.
It’s still closed on Monday and Wednesday, but now weekday hours have been standardised across the board. Business hours on Tuesday and Thursday have been extended by an hour to 3pm; Friday has been reduced by two hours to a 3pm close.
Weekend closing times have been standardised too, with Saturday trading hours extended by an hour to 4pm, lining up with Sunday hours.
In July, as part of a $250 million renewal, the market opened String Bean Alley, a collection of 26 retailers selling everything from vintage collectables to books to Japanese homewares out of remodelled shipping containers. And back in May it banned single-use plastic bags and straws.
