Another day, another shark sighting causing a popular beach to close. Torquay and Jan Juc are the latest beaches that swimmers were told to avoid due to nearby sharks, according to their Facebook pages on Tuesday.
Fairhaven Beach was also closed yesterday due to a shark sighting, website Dorsal Shark Reports posted on its Facebook page.
This comes the day after 20 sharks were spotted around the Victorian coast, including a sighting that forced the closure of a beach at Anglesea.
Shark sightings this summer have increased significantly compared to earlier years – experts say weather conditions have brought higher numbers of bait fish close to shore, attracting sharks that are in the warmer waters for mating.
