Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria has followed the lead of many other Melbourne's institutions, along with government advice, and closed both its city and Cranbourne gardens until further notice.
"For the safety of visitors and staff and following advice from the Victorian Government regarding measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria has made the decision to close Melbourne Gardens and Cranbourne Gardens to all visitors until further notice," a statement on its website reads.
"While the physical gates will be closed to the public, our important work to safeguard plants for the wellbeing of people and the planet continues. Most of our team will work from home, with essential staff working onsite to maintain the gardens in line with government guidelines."
