No you haven’t misread the headline. An offal (not an oil) spill on the West Gate Freeway is causing major delays over the West Gate Bridge and Bolte Bridge all the way to Burnley Tunnel (where the spill occurred), and Racecourse Road.
Offal is animal innards including the liver, heart, kidney and brain.
City Link is advising drivers to seek alternate routes.
The spill, which appears to have come out of a truck as it drove past Ingles Street in Port Melbourne, has closed two inbound lanes on the West Gate Freeway, the Age reports.
VicRoads says it will take at least two hours to clean up and may affect peak hour.
The size of the spill is about six car lengths.
