The Department of Health and Human Services has released new data that reveals the Victorian postcodes hardest hit by coronavirus.

Until now, the data was broken down by local government areas, which can contain dozens of suburbs. These numbers are more area-specific.

Postcode 3029 – which includes the suburbs of Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina in Melbourne’s west – is the hardest hit with 346 active cases.

Next is 3064 on the northern outskirts of Melbourne – Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, Donnybrook, Kalkallo and Mickleham – with 286 active cases.

It’s followed by 3021 (St Albans, Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park) with 221 active cases; 3030 (Quandong, Cocoroc, Werribee, Point Cook, Werribee South) with 217 active cases; and 3023 (Caroline Springs, Deer Park, Ravenhall, Cairnlea, Burnside Heights, Burnside) with 177 active cases.

In regional and rural Victoria, postcode 3250 – which encompasses Colac, Colac East, Colac West and Elliminyt – has the highest number of active cases, with a current total of 69.

Face masks or coverings, which are already mandatory in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, will be required across Victoria starting 11.59pm on Sunday.

“It’s important that every Victorian takes this virus seriously and that we all do the right thing,” Professor Brett Sutton, Victoria’s chief health officer, said in a statement on Friday.

The breakdown below covers Victoria’s top 20 postcodes by active cases. Case locations are determined by the residential address provided when the case is made known to authorities – not where the person may have been infected.

Data is correct as of July 31. See the full report here.
