Major work has started on a new community park that will open in Fishermans Bend in mid-2018.

The project is transforming an industrial site at 2–4 Buckhurst Street, South Melbourne into a 9000-square-metre public park. It will feature four lawn areas, outdoor LED lighting, paved entrances, seating and garden beds.

Road closures will be in place during construction. Ferrars Street (between Gladstone and Douglas streets) and at Gladstone Street (between Kerr and Ferrars streets) will be permanently closed from January 8. On-street parking along Kerr Street will be limited.

Jointly purchased by Port Phillip Council and the Victorian Government, the development will be known as the Montague Community Park until its unveiling, when it will be renamed.
