Suburbs, universities and schools, and major shopping destinations across eastern, southern and north-eastern Melbourne will be impacted today as more than 1500 bus drivers take strike action after enterprise agreement negotiations with operators Dyson and Ventura reached a stalemate.

From Lilydale to Mordialloc, Cranbourne to Bundoora and as far afield as Rosebud and St Andrews, bus services are grounded for a full 24 hours – from 12.01am until 11.59pm – throwing commutes into chaos.

School bus services to more than 80 schools will also be cancelled, impacting thousands of students attending some of the state’s largest campuses, including Wesley College, Frankston High School and Ringwood Secondary College. Students at Latrobe and Deakin universities will also be unable to get to classes via bus tomorrow.

PTV says department of education specialist schools’ bus services are not subject to the strike action and will operate to schedule.

Shopping hubs Northland, Westfield Knox and Chadstone shopping centres, as well as the Queen Victoria Market, will also be inaccessible by bus on Friday.

Night bus services will operate as usual.
