In a press conference on Monday afternoon, Premier Daniel Andrews announced a two-week extension to Melbourne’s lockdown – and some “strengthened” restrictions. Here’s what’s being introduced, in addition to the existing rules.

From 11.59pm on Monday August 16:

• A curfew will apply from 9pm to 5am daily; it must be observed from 9pm on Monday August 16.
• Exercise will be allowed for up to two hours, with only one other person plus dependants if they cannot be left unattended. The other person can be from another household.
• Removal of masks to drink alcohol outdoors will be prohibited.
• Playgrounds, basketball courts, skate parks and exercise equipment will be closed, despite being outdoors.
• Permits will be required for authorised work and education, as was the case in the 2020 lockdowns.
• Religious broadcasts will be limited to the same crew every time.
• In the construction sector, large projects will be reduced to 25 per cent and smaller projects will have a maximum of five workers.
