Following the $7 million sale of his iconic Footscray store, charismatic Melbourne furniture salesman Franco Cozzo is redeveloping his Brunswick store on Sydney Road.

Architectural firm Fender Katsalidis is behind the proposed Franco Apartments building, an eight-story, 32-unit apartment complex with a 50-seat Italian restaurant on the ground floor.

Cozzo says it will be run by his daughter Angelina, a chef, and told the Age the eatery will have a pizzeria, gelateria and pasticceria.

The furniture store will continue selling elaborate, Baroque-style imports and giant clam-esque bedheads on the ground floor of the complex. The planning permit specifies almost 300 square meters of retail space.

Plans for the new development are currently with VCAT waiting for potential appeals.
