Over 30 fire trucks and their crews are currently working to contain a large fire in Melbourne's west.

Firefighters arrived at the Fun City go kart complex on Ballarat Road just before 7.30pm this evening, after the MFB received several calls from the public. Police and paramedics are also on the scene.

Shortly after 9pm the MFB issued a release saying, "the complex is totally involved in fire, sections of the building is constructed of tilt slabs and is in danger of collapse. The southern end of the fire is free burning and emitting a large amount of smoke. The fire is still not under control."

The Age is reporting that authorities have upgraded a warning to residents of Albion, Sunshine and Sunshine North about smoke in the area.

"Anyone located east of the fire for approximately 800 meters should take shelter indoors immediately," the announcement said. "Close all exterior doors, windows and vents and ensure that heating and cooling systems are turned off."

Fun City is a former warehouse in Sunshine North that was converted into an indoor go kart track. It has been closed since early April. There have been no reports of injuries.
