At 11.59pm on Friday February 12, Victoria is entering a five-day statewide lockdown. Stage-four restrictions will apply until 11.59pm on Wednesday.

“We’ve all done too much, given too much, we’ve built such a precious thing,” Premier Daniel Andrews said in a press conference on Friday afternoon. “And now we have to follow the advice of the experts to safeguard it.”

How long will it last?
The restrictions will apply from 11.59pm on Friday February 12 until 11.59pm on Wednesday February 17.

Can I leave my home?
There are only four permitted reasons to leave your home:
• Shopping for food or other essential items
• Medical care or caregiving
• Essential work, if you cannot work from home
• Exercise, but only for two hours a day

Is a lockdown radius in place?
Yes, it is. Once again, you cannot travel more than five kilometres from your home. Exceptions are for permitted work and to shop for essentials, if they cannot be accessed within your radius.

When do I need to wear a mask?
Masks are mandatory everywhere except your home, including outdoors.

Can I exercise with a friend?
You’re allowed to exercise for up to two hours a day with other members of your household, an intimate partner, or one other person who doesn’t fit into the prior two categories.

Are restaurants open?
Hospitality venues – including restaurants and cafes – can only remain open for takeaway.

Can I have a friend over?
No visitors are allowed in your home. Private and public gatherings are also prohibited.

Are schools closed?
Schools will close but remain open for vulnerable children or the children of workers permitted to leave their homes. Higher education is also closed.

What else is closed?
• Places of worship, except to film broadcasts
• Hairdressers
• Real-estate auctions and inspections (though auctions can take place online)
• Indoor and outdoor recreation centres
• Swimming pools
• Community centres such as libraries, unless they provide essential services and public support
• Creative studios
• Entertainment centres
• Non-essential retail

Is childcare open?
Childcare and early-learning centres remain open, though this may be revisited if the lockdown needs to be extended.

Are funerals permitted?
Yes, but they must be limited to 10 people.

Are weddings permitted?
No, unless for compassionate reasons.
