Parts of Queensbridge Street have been shut down after a truck carrying an excavator brought down tramlines in Southbank near the Melbourne CBD early this morning.
The accident happened when the oversized vehicle attempted a U-turn. No-one was injured.
One lane is now open in each direction between Power Street and Flinders Street on Queensbridge Street. Trams are still unable to use the area.
Public Transport Victoria advises that route 58 trams will be diverted via Elizabeth Street, Victoria Street and Flemington Road along Route 59. Shuttle trams are running between the Royal Children’s Hospital and City Road via Kings Way.
"Repairs continue to overhead wires and infrastructure under the rail overpass at Flinders St and along Queensbridge St," Yarra Trams tweeted earlier. The tram operator expects "this disruption to continue for approximately eight hours in time for the PM Peak."
Those travelling on bus route 605 have been advised to expect delays by CDC, a bus operator. "All 605 services are diverting around the area in both directions, missing stops on Queens Street," CDC tweeted earlier.
If you’re travelling through the CBD this morning expect delays.
