Collingwood’s New Indie Cinema Eclipse Opens With A24 Films and Handmade Choc-Tops

Collingwood’s new 64-seat single-screen cinema Eclipse opens tomorrow. There’ll be daily sessions from late morning to late evening, starting tomorrow at 11am with a screening of Miguel Gomes’s 2024 feature Grand Tour.

The cinema is the work of Mark Walker, a co-founder of Geelong’s Pivotonian Cinema , who launched a crowdfunding campaign for the theatre in July and raised over $42,800 via Pozible, well above his $25,000 goal.

In its first week, Eclipse will also screen A24’s Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson comedy Friendship ; Les Blank’s 1982 documentary Burden of Dreams , which follows filmmaker Werner Herzog as he makes his masterpiece, Fitzcarraldo ; and Canadian comedy-drama Universal Language. A24’s Ari Aster film Eddington shows from Thursday September 4.

There’ll also be Almodovar Wednesdays, spotlighting Walker’s favourite director, Pedro Almodovar (The Room Next Door , Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).

But most importantly, Eclipse will have a well-stocked candy bar with popcorn, house-made choc-tops and a bar stocked with Stomping Ground beers, gluten-free beers and vegan ice-cream sandwiches.
