Urban Projuice is a passion project for Trina Steele – one that took seven years to realise. She once suffered from the bowel-inflaming Crohn’s Disease, which led her and daughter Tegan Steele to travel to the US to research the beneficial effects of a wholefoods, plant-based diet.

The duo poured its findings into this converted two-storey Victorian terrace typical of the leafy St Vincent Place heritage precinct. Located a little apart from bustling Bridport Street, with its plethora of cafes serving traditional pastries and fried breakfasts, the vegan and vegetarian spot offers an alternative philosophy and menu.

The signature breakfast dish is vegan, gluten-free buckwheat pancakes, served with coconut ice-cream, banana, mixed berries and strawberry dusting. The five-dish lunch menu includes a vegie burger on a toasted sesame-seed bun; various salads and DIY spring rolls.

To amp up your nutrient intake even more, kombucha, cold-pressed juices, smoothies and whole coconuts are available. The coffee is an organic, fair-trade, carbon-neutral, Guatemalan roast from Red Star.

The venue is made up of cosy spaces, ranging from the serene upstairs front balcony to the courtyard with chat-friendly benches out back. Enjoy free wi-fi throughout.

As part of Trina and Tegan’s mission to spread the wholefoods message, Urban Projuice also offers cooking classes and free meditation sessions.
