First-time restaurant owners Dror Barnea and Yariv Alfie have put together their strengths in the kitchen and at front-of-house, respectively, for Turquoise Eatery in Caulfield South.
As you walk in the cafe, there is a sense of adventure and escapism from features such as the suitcases at the entrance. The decor is rustic with unique recycled pieces, op-shop gems and distressed timber making up elements of the counter, seating and quirky light fittings.
The menu is hearty and zesty, encompassing dishes from the Middle East and the Mediterranean and drawing on French culinary techniques from Barnea’s time in New York.
You’ll find interesting food combinations, real bursts of colour and new flavours to try. A menu highlight is the charred eggplant tahini with yoghurt, pomegranate molasses and fresh pita bread. Try the rose-water pannacotta with a pistachio crunch to complement your coffee or as a light way to cap off a delicious lunchtime feast.
