Sunny Boy was founded in 2019 with a strong focus on sustainably sourced coffee. But this eye-catching HQ for the specialty roaster – owned and run by Jake Bicchieri (Assembly Ground, People’s Coffee) and Erkan Selek (Rosso Coffee) – didn’t arrive till a few years later, easily recognised by a glowing orange sign on the facade that simply spells “coffee”.

The warm colour palette continues inside, with a bright orange coffee machine at the entrance, and a retro interior taking big cues from the 1970s. Take a seat on one of the plush brown leather couches or swivel chairs if you’re having in, or grab takeaway from the street-facing window.

A small roasting operation out the back supplies the house blends and single origins, available as filter, cold brew and, of course, espresso. The signature Sunny Side blend’s big butterscotch notes pair perfectly with milk. You can also grab whole beans – as well as all the gear to brew it at home – from the tidy little retail section.

If you're after a bite to eat, a cabinet at the front is filled with pastries and bread by Richmond bakery Penny for Pound, and a rotating selection of sandwiches.
