South Society brings the best aspects of Chapel and Brunswick Street cafes to Mount Waverley’s Pinewood Shopping Village. But owners Dane Conboy, Attil Filippelli, Adrian Ciorciari and Garry Rodakis know they can’t just mimic inner-city concepts to make it in the suburbs.

Their demographic includes young families, seniors and everybody in-between. The accessible menu has a similar diversity. An owner is always on the door and the staff is only hired from the area, creating a sense of community that keeps locals coming back.      

Breakfasts winners are the chilli scramble and Nutella French toast. For lunch, the soft-shell crab burger with wombok slaw and Sriracha mayo.

Dinner centres around cuisine-agnostic share plates. Larger choices include slow-cooked meats, pastas and roasted harissa chicken. Pair these with smaller tapas-style dishes such as goat’s cheese zucchini flowers, glossy five-spice chicken ribs or smoky eggplant dip. Don’t miss the well-executed cocktail and dessert menus.
