Only weeks after opening Strange Servant in Dingley Village, Sam Elmazi had his sights set on this space at 21 Thompsons Road in Patterson Lakes. With several eateries already under his belt (Dosage, Second Wife, The Foreigner), Elmazi brought on former Dosage manager Joey Charbel as a partner in one.

Despite its formal name, Mr Patterson has a homey, warm feel. There’s dusty pink paint splashed across the ceiling and bunches of flowers on a rose-coloured counter. Greenery scattered throughout the venue provides a refreshing contrast.

The menu is more exciting than most. There’s ricotta-stuffed brioche French toast with Golden Gaytime ice-cream, “gay dust” and white-chocolate-snow crumble for the sweet tooths. For the adventurous, Spanish sardines on toasted rye with cottage cheese, crushed peas and soft herb quinoa salad.

To drink there’s Industry Beans coffee and Mad As A Hatter chai. The Golden Grind and Konomi Matcha lattes are worth a try, too.
