Lip Café is tucked away in a pocket of shops on Waterdale Road. It's a bustling little cafe that stands out from the crowd. With quite a foodie-centric philosophy, Lip brings a refreshing sense of dedication to great coffee and food.

The fit out has the usual recycled furniture, a communal table, quirky bits and bobs, and an open kitchen, but Lip has a welcoming, individual feel that sings of comfort and casual simplicity. The menu based around Middle Eastern and Southern Mediterranean flavours and spices. Exploring divers tastes and techniques from around the world, owner/chef Julian Chew uses ingredients such as black limes, dried chillies, pimentos, tahini and dukkah to create his dishes.

There are plenty of breakfast options to choose from with combinations and flavours that most wouldn’t think to put together, but make a delicious plate. There’s also a blackboard of specials that often have a Malaysian touch – inspired by Chew’s heritage. And of course, for the sweet tooth, there are crepes, lamingtons, cakes, and a yoghurt panna cotta with strawberries, watermelon, pistachios and rose water.

While the quiet, suburban neighbourhood of Ivanhoe and its locals have been keeping this delightful and charming cafe all to themselves, it’s time to share.
